Sri Purushottam Swamy, Uttamar Koil (DD3)
16 May 2021A very unique aspect of this temple, known as Thirukadambanur, is that this is perhaps the only temple where the Trimurtis – Lord Vishnu, Lord Brahma and Lord Shiva are present along with their consorts viz., Goddess Mahalakshmi, Goddess Saraswati and Goddess Parvati. Visiting this temple is said to cure one of all ailments, doshas, curses, etc.
To test the sincere prayers of Lord Brahma, the creator Lord Sriman Narayana (Vishnu) made himself as a Kadambha Tree and grew here. Lord Brahma who realised HIS incarnation as a tree continued to offer His prayers. Subsequently, Lord Vishnu blessed Lord Brahma here.
Once, Lord Shiva was angry at Lord Brahma, who created Lord Shiva, as Brahma was acting arrogant because of His five faces. Hence, Lord Shiva plucked on of the Five heads of Lord Brahma. Unfortunately, this was an incorrect act, also known as “Brahma Hatti Dosha”. Thereafter, the fifth head skull of Lord Brahma got stuck to Lord Shiva’s hands. He came here and sought alms from Goddess Mahalakshmi who relieved Him of His sin. Thereafter, the deity name of Lord Shiva here is known as “Pichandavar” or “Bikshandavar” – the God who sought “Biksha” (alms / solace) from Goddess Mahalakshmi.
Here’s a short pravachanam / upanyasam (in Tamil) by Shri. Velukkudi Krishnan about this temple.
